The Student Success & Support unit will oversee the management and professional development of Teaching Assistants, working closely with schools and departments to ensure quality, consistency, and effectiveness in instructional support. It will also provide institutional oversight of student academic advising and monitor student academic success indicators. Specific functions will include:
- Design and implement a comprehensive TA Program Framework to ensure effective academic support across programs.
- Develop TA Terms of Reference, role expectations, workload guidelines, and performance standards.
- Develop and execute a structured TA orientation program, including roles, responsibilities, institutional policies, professional conduct, and Do’s and Don’ts.
- Establish and manage a 360-degree TA feedback mechanism, including faculty feedback on TA performance, student feedback on TA effectiveness, and TA feedback on supervisors/faculty.
- Monitor TA engagement and effectiveness throughout the semester and ensure continuous improvement of the TA program.
- Provide oversight of academic advising and mentoring systems to support student success.
- Track at-risk students using predefined academic performance indicators and identify trends related to retention, progression, completion, and graduation.
- Implement an annual feedback mechanism from PhD students regarding supervision quality, research progress, and overall experience.
- Coordinate fair and consistent resolution of academic grievances and appeals in accordance with institutional regulations.
- Prepare periodic reports on TA performance, student outcomes, and key quality indicators for internal stakeholders.
- Enhance the overall student academic experience through engagement, support services, and learning enrichment initiatives.
SSS will function as the institutional hub for TA governance and academic support analytics. It will connect TA effectiveness, student progression, and academic advising to enable proactive intervention and improved student outcomes.
